Corrosion Repair & Treatment
Recent studies by Curtin University into the state of maintenance in the industrial - and specifically the mining operations - sector have found that: "Corrosion represents a significant cost burden to the mining industry. Recent reviews indicate that the true cost of corrosion is as high as 3% of the gross domestic product (GDP), which represents a figure of $60 billion/year".
This figure is staggering, but shows the dramatic effects that untreated corrosion can have, both in terms of cost to management to correct the damage as well as the cost to operations in terms of reduced capacity or similar.
At the first sign of corrosion to your building or structure on your operating site, it is important that you consider taking action; because although the signs have only just become apparent, the underlying causes of visible corrosion have been ongoing for some time. Deferring your maintenance of this issue is going to, long term, increase the cost of repair and cause other issues such as concrete cancer.
At Remedial Building Services, we have a qualified team of experts who can assist you in determining the cause of corrosion, the requirements for correcting it with minimal impact on your business, and the best way to then reinstate the structure to it's former state. Not only can we act in a diagnostic capacity however, but we can provide technical advice on procedures to enact to maximise the life of your structure without experiencing corossion. We employ both non-metallic barriers such as protective coatings and also use cathodic repair (methods which cause the metal to act as a cathode).
We have extensive experience in the rectification of corrosion for mining and related industries, with some notable examples including:
- Yarwun Alumina Refinery (Rio Tinto) - Acid bund refurbishment
- Lady Annie Mine (CST Minerals) - Bund refurbishment
- Gas Storage Tanks (Origin Energy) - Plinth repairs to gas storage
- Cement Australia - Silo Repairs
- Gateway Bridge - Void filling of pylons, Structural concrete repair, application of intumescent coatings
