Sydney Airport: T2- Fire Rating

T2 terminal at Sydney airport is a main thoroughfare for thousands of people everyday. It is understandable as a result that the strucural integrity of the building never be compromised, especially in the case of emergency. In this instance it is imperative that the steel be structurally sound to allow people complete unrestricted egress.

MPA Constructions approached us with a view to obtaining our advice on what particular approach to adopt to protect the steel in the case of fire.

After consultation with them to determine the design parameters, it was decided that thin film intumescents would be the ideal coating. A thin film intumescent was installed to all the structural steel that supports the mezzanine levels of the new retail section of the Airport.

All installation was carried out using the state of the art technology and machinery which greatly eliminated  overspray and odour problems, thus relating in no interruptions from the adjacent trades and services.
