Residential Apartment Fire Rating Solution

RBSA were recently selected by Watpac Australia to provide a fire rating system with an FRL of 60 minute on newly installed galvanized structural steelwork. The steel which was erected in residential apartments in Brisbane had to be protected with a system that would not impede the tolerance of the windows or their openings, nor affect the architectural design of the building.

The solution recommended and installed by Remedial Building Services was to apply a thin film intumescent. The solution involved two components :

  • Primer:     Nullfire 8300 WB @ 50 microns dry film thickness
  • Basecoat:  Nullifire S707-60 so as to provide a 60 minute FRL

Upon completion the windows were fitted to the steel structure using aluminium fascias. Due to the low odour and zero VOC emissions, the work was done in conjunction with other trades on site, eliminating delays to the work schedule.
