Carbon Fibre Strengthening - Eagle St-Brisbane
Recently, Remedial Building Services applied carbon fibre as a measure to increase the structural strength of an existing concrete structure. Specifically, a site in Eagle Street in Brisbane, required the strengthening of a concrete podium which was to serve as the foundations for a new building. As work commenced, the consulting engineers advised Leighton Contractors that the existing podium did not have the laod baring capacity the extra building would require.
Due to a number of factors, including fabrication lead times and height restrictions, steel strengthening was not a viable option. Rather, the preferred option was to reinforce the existing structure using Sika Carbodur Carbon Fibre S1214, S812 & S512.
With extensive experience in the application of carbon fibre, Remedial Building Services were selected by Leighton's to install 464 lineal meters to the underside of the podium, which we were able to perform within 7 days of first being on-site. During the process, we experienced no problems with the product.
The result of the carbon fibre application was increased structural strength of the podium with minimal impact on the scope of works and the time schedule.
